Kindergarten News
Our Week:
This week we have been busy reading books written by Eric Carle. We read the classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar and extended our literature with writing and art projects. We have been focusing on lower case letter formation, digraphs, and ending our sentences with a period. Students are working on identifying initial, middle, and ending sounds in words. We are also introducing reading and writing high frequency words or “Trick Words” as identified by Wilson curriculum. This week we introduced: have, and, you, see, are, do, the, of, and to. The children are becoming quite proficient at working through Workboard literacy centers cooperatively and successfully.
We had our first school-wide fire drill this week. We discussed fire safety and creating a fire evacuation plan at home. The children may have questions and concerns for you about fire and safety. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.
Dance bags need to come to school on Monday and stay in your child’s backpack all week. They may be empty, or they may have a leotard, ballet shoes, or t-shirt and shorts. Stevenson has ordered necessary items and they should arrive soon. An empty bag with your child’s first and last name is important in this process. Children take the bag to Dance class and place jumpers and shoes inside for organization. Please do not keep extra changes of clothing in this bag or use it in lieu of a backpack. Please make sure every item of clothing is labeled.
We will be going to Swank Farm in Hollister on Wednesday, October 15. Thank you to the parents that will be able to join us. We still have room for more volunteers. Please make sure that you have canceled Aquaterra for this day and that you send a snack, water bottle, and lunch. It will be a Free Dress day. It is often hot in Hollister. Layered clothing and sunblock may be necessary.
Reminders:
-October 3 Spirit Rally
-October 4 Homecoming and Run in the Forest
