Our Week in Kindergarten
Week of January 12-16
Our Week:
We had a fun and successful week in class. We hope you enjoyed your reading and letter practice with your child. Remember to keep the book in the White Homework envelope all week and return on Friday. Please keep the letter practice and return the book. We are reading Charlotte’s Web as a read aloud and the children are enjoying Wilbur and his friends. We are continuing our march into penguins and the 17 species that live south of the equator. We wrote penguin facts, put together penguin lifecycle books, worked on a penguin survey, and explored the science center. With Mrs. Wilks, we discussed some properties of water and worked with eyedroppers and magnifying glasses.
Earthquake Drill:
We had an earthquake drill on Tuesday. We discussed stop, drop, and cover. We practiced quiet evacuation and had a discussion on differences between fire and earthquake drills. Your children may have more questions. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Community Service Day:
We are having an all school community service day on Wednesday, January 21. Kindergarten will be walking to the Carmel Police Department and delivering cookies and a poster to show our appreciation and gratitude for all of officers’ hard work and dedication. When we know the time of departure, we will be asking for some parent volunteers to join us on the walk into town. If you are available and flexible on that day, please let us know.
Valentine’s Day:
Valentine’s Day is only a month away. Each child will need to bring in 23 cards for Kindergarten on Monday, February 9. You may make or purchase these cards. Please have your child only fill in the “From” portion of the card. Leaving off the “To” names helps make our delivery to mailboxes much more efficient. We also need each child to bring in a shoebox to decorate and turn into a Valentine mailbox. Please send these to school by February 2, so that we have time to paint and decorate these during our morning centers. If you would like to donate more than one, we would appreciate it. Thanks for your help with these projects.
