Our Week in Kindergarten
Our Week
We hope you all had a happy and restful vacation. Happy New Year! Thank you all so much for your thoughtful gifts and cards. They were very much appreciated. We are off and running into the New Year. We have begun a new unit on penguins and habitats. We are also doing an author study on Jan Brett. This week we read The Mitten and The Hat. We have been discussing properties of water, weather, and winter clothing in English and Spanish. We are asking the children to each bring in a pair of mittens or gloves next week as we continue our Jan Brett study.
You will see a combination of leveled books, sight words, and handwriting activities in the homework folder beginning on January 12. Please choose what is best for your child in terms of time spent on these activities. Lexia 20-40 minutes per week, in combination with reading and sight word practice, will greatly enhance your child’s s reading experience. Reading these beginning reader books 3-5 times each, will assist with automaticity and sight word recognition. Remember that each child is at a different place with learning and will need a range of scaffolding with reading. Please help your child take care of these schoolbooks. They are shared across grade levels. A new book will not be sent home until the previous one is returned. Happy reading!
Your children may be more tired and sensitive this week. The transition back to school after a two-week break is difficult for many. Sleep routines, extra food, and simple routines are all helpful ways to get your children back into the swing of school. Send more protein and fruit/vegetable snacks to school to help your children be more successful and have a fun day.
Reminders
· January 19-No School
· January 21-All School Service Day
· January 28-Multi-Cultural Day
· January 30-Free Dress
