Week of November 3-7
Our Week:
We had a fun Halloween parade, carnival, and class party last week. Thank you so much for your help and participation in this. The children enjoyed our beanbag Boo Toss. Thank you to our room mom, Risa Fowler, for organizing this fun and exciting event.
Thank you for helping your children stay well rested as we transition with our time change and as our lives become busy during the holiday season. The American Association of Pediatrics recommends 12-13 hours of sleep a night for children 5-6 years of age.
We have continued to work in small reading groups. Students meet with a teacher and work on letter sounds, blending, decoding, fluency, and increasing automaticity. Please have sight words available somewhere in your home for children to work on reading and spelling. As your children master these words, we will send home the next 25 sight words from the Frye list of words.
The Winter Book Fair is coming soon. Tuesday and Wednesday, November 11 & 12 from 8:00-10:00 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM in Rooms 7 & 8.
We practiced an Earthquake Drill on Thursday, November 6. We discussed procedure, earthquake emergency kits, and how we duck and cover quietly. Your children may have more questions. In the classroom students duck and cover, wait for the all clear signal, line up and evacuate to the blacktop for an all school attendance check. Kindergarten did a great job practicing this routine.
Poem
I’m a little turkey
My name is Ted.
Here are my feathers
And here is my head.
Gobble, gobble, gobble
Is what I say.
Quick! Run!
It’s Thanksgiving Day.
(Tune of I’m a Little Teapot)
