Our Week in Kindergarten
Our Week:
We have been reading Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl as a read aloud chapter book this week. The students are quite intrigued by the book. We are working on reading and spelling sight words during reading groups and Writer’s Workshop. Please make sure that the sight words that we sent home during October conferences are available for daily practice. Many children that are reading emergent Kindergarten books are working diligently on blending consonant vowel consonant words and would benefit greatly from repeat exposure to these sight words. The children that can read these words readily can practice spelling them with speed and accuracy.
The all school canned food drive will begin on Monday, November 17. Each class will have a barrel to collect and keep a running tally on cans. The collection will end on Friday, November 21. We have been learning how to bundle and group by fives with tally marks this week during math centers.
The holiday season is upon us, and full of festivity and fun. Please remember how important moderation and consistency are for the children. Carline is at 3:15 and ends at 3:30. The next carline is at 3:45 and ends at 4:00. All children are excused from Session B to report to the carline waiting zone at 5:20 and the last carline is over at 5:30. Please be timely and respectful.
We have been playing the card game Concentration this week. It is a fun way to practice being a good sport about winning and losing, taking turns, and utilizing memory skills for recall. The children enjoy playing Spot It as well.
The holiday performance at Keck will be on December 12 and 13. Children will need to be in their Sunday best for the performance. We know it is a busy time of the year, but the expectation is that they will perform on both of these dates. If you are unable due to other circumstances, please let Chris West, the Music teacher know. We are excited to see them perform.

When the turkey gobble gobbles,
It is plump and proud and perky.
