Week of March 23-27
Our Week:
During Literature discussion with Mrs. Peiken, the students have had five books read to them. The titles of these books are: City Dog, Country Frog, Exclamation Mark, Miss Brooks Loves Books! (and I Don’t), Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit, and Too Tall Houses. All students in the state of California, in PK thru Grade Three, will vote on these books. The winner of the vote will win the California Young Reader Medal. You can look up previous winners or browse online for more information. There is a copy of these titles included in your child’s Green Folder for creating bookmarks.
During math centers this week, we concentrated on place value, addition equations, number bonds, and number formation. In our literacy Work board centers, we worked on lowercase letter review, sight words, reading groups, journal writing, and continued to read books about pets and introduced farm animals.
Please be sure that your child can independently tie shoes, if they come to school wearing tie shoes on P.E. or Dance days.
Just Run forms have been included in the Green Folder. If you and your child run at home, please complete this form and submit to Coach Klevan to assist with tracking miles. Students are very excited to receive 5 and 10 mile charms that they tie on shoes or snap on backpacks. They are proud of their accomplishments.
We will be going on a Field trip to Hacienda Hay and Feed on Thursday, April 9. We will leave school @ 9:45 by Bus. We will be returning to school for lunch by 11:25. If you would like to accompany us on the bus, please let us know. If you would like to meet us at Hacienda Hay and Feed on Carmel Valley Road, from 10:00-11:00, let us know. We have been learning about pets and are expanding into a farm life unit.
Volunteers:
We will have opportunities on Friday mornings from 8:00-8:15 or Friday 2:55-3:10, for parents to come into our classroom and read a story to the children. If you would like to come in and read, please e-mail us with your first and second choice time slots and we will organize and respond via e-mail. We have 10 Fridays left.
If you have a special skill or art project that you would like to organize, prepare, and share with our class of 23 students, please let us know.
Picnic:
Please send in 6 filled plastic Easter eggs for a hunt on Friday, April 3. Eggs can be filled with jellybeans, stickers, erasers, or trinkets. We are avoiding items with nuts or that may melt in the sun. Children will donate these to the classroom collection to be hidden and found during our class hunt and picnic. If you have interest in providing sliced watermelon, grapes, strawberries or simple treats to share after we eat our own packed lunches, please let us know. Please do not order Aquaterra on this day, as we will be having a class picnic.
Food:
Please remind your child about our no sharing food policy at school. This is for allergies and to be sure that all children have adequate food when they need it, as well as economic reasons. Some children are curious about other children’s lunches and new types of food, or are hungry at the end of the day. Please have a discussion with your child about favorite foods, foods they saw in other lunch boxes that look interesting, and check in to see which Aquaterra lunches are a favorite and which they do not enjoy.
Summer Birthdays:
If your child is a summer birthday, and they wish to celebrate at school, please contact us with several possible dates. We will send a confirming e-mail. Schedule “C” days or another student’s actual birthday are unavailable.
Reminders:
· 6 Filled Easter Eggs to school by April 1
· Kindergarten Picnic, April 3
· Field Trip to Hacienda Hay and Feed, April 9 @ 9:45-11:30
· No Class, April 16-20
· Free Dress, April 24
Thank you,
Vicki Copeland and Manon Pratt
