Our Week in Kindergarten
Week of December 1-5
Our Week:
We returned from vacation and what a week we have had! We are busy getting ready for the holidays by making holiday handprint wreaths, writing a wish list, searching for holiday-themed words around the room, and playing Holiday Concentration card game. We have been busy writing sight words in salt trays. Please be sure to review the sight words daily with your child. We also worked hard on our tangrams and making a December calendar. We have included a Tangram worksheet for you and your family to have fun with. Children are working on number formation and skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10’s. We are also practicing counting to 100 orally and writing to at least 30. The children are enjoying our new chapter book Charlotte’s Web.
Holiday Party:
Our class holiday party will be Friday, December 19th at 1:30 pm. We ask for your participation by donating the following candies for our sugar cone Christmas trees that we will decorate during our party. We would like the following candies:
· Skittles
· M&M’s
· Red licorice
· Gum drops
· Mini-candy canes
· Jelly beans
· Chocolate chips
· Mini marshmallow
· Cheerios
· Any thing else your child might like to share with Kindergarten
Please send these into our classroom by Monday, December 15th. They can be sent in your child’s backpack in a Ziploc bag. Risa Fowler, our room mom, will set up a Sign-up Genius for the holiday party.
Keck Performance:
Children need to be dropped off at 6:00 pm at the Pebble Beach campus on Friday, December 12. Drop off for the Saturday, December 13 performance is at 3:30 pm. Children must be signed in and out. Please make sure your child has eaten a meal and is dressed in Holiday attire. The performances begin at 7:00 pm and 4:30 pm respectively. Two tickets per family are now available in the front office. More will be available next week. If you are unable to attend one of these performances, please let us know. It affects the other children and the organization and placement of children on stage.
Students will be going to Pebble Beach on Tuesday, December 9 and Thursday, December 11 to practice for the Holiday performance. Students may wear Stevenson sweats, sweatshirts, black or grey leggings or sweats, Stevenson T-shirts and Stevenson jackets. It is often cold in Keck and P.E. clothing helps the children stay warm and comfortable. Students may also wear regular uniform clothing.
Lexia:
Lexia Student Combined Reports are going home in this week’s green folder. Please check your child’s progress and weekly minutes. We have sent home achievement certificates for children who have progressed to the next level. Good job everyone! Keep up the good work at home. Students complete approximately 15 minutes per week of Lexia in the classroom as additional phonics instruction.
