Our Week:
This week during Workboard, we worked on procedure, clean up, and time management. Each child is grouped in color groups for the week. They will rotate through all 12 learning centers by the end of each week. Children will be mixed weekly by social skills and learning styles and move through three centers each day. These activities include fine motor, writing, art, reading, games and puzzles, building, and phonological awareness work. Some of the centers included: Handwriting Without Tears, daily news journal, Wilson letter write, Core 5 Lexia, self portrait, and buddy reading. The classroom was buzzing with busy learning
During math and science centers we continue to work on skills, procedures, and classroom rules. We are focusing on odd and even numbers, sorting by multiple attributes, number bonds, skip counting to 100 in groups of 2, 5, and 10, and number formation. We have been writing down observations in our science journals about our school garden. We have asked the children to bring in signs of fall. Seeds, acorns, leaves, pumpkins, or other objects of interest, that they would like to share with our science center, would be greatly appreciated.
Reading Envelope:
This envelope will be sent home weekly on Mondays. This will have letter practice, sight words, and leveled reading later in the term. The Wilson packet that is included has a large parent education component. We would like children to practice some letter formation and Lexia during the week. Please decide what is appropriate for you and your child. We understand everyone has very busy lives. Procedure and consistency are important when returning envelopes on Friday. When children are proficient with the responsibility, we will begin to send home two leveled books to practice all week. We would like to provide the opportunity for a common language and understanding of curriculum. Have fun learning with your child.
Morning Drop-Off Procedure:
Thank you so much for your prompt arrival at school each morning. Supervision is provided for students on the big school playground between 7:30 and 7:55 AM. Our Kindergarten door opens at 7:55 AM to begin the academic day. Beginning on Monday, September 29, we ask that the students enter the Kindergarten classroom independently. To help the students be successful, we will need your assistance at the door reminding children about lunchboxes, water bottles, folders, and hugs. The students are eager to begin morning procedures and get to work with all of our fun centers. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and devotion in preparing the students for this next step.
